We fell in love with the pups the first moment I saw them when we received a call from a concerned citizen in Union Mills NC. The four pups was just under a 3 months old tossed out of a blue Honda by two women on a busy highway. Spunky and cute with a quiet dispositions the pups got separated from each other. Two of them were picked up on November 3rd, 2014 and were taken in by us so they would not end up in our local Rutherford County Animal Control (high Kill shelter). On Monday the 4th of November another call was received that two more pups from the same litter were running down the busy road with cars barley missing them. These pups were brought to us and the four pups were reunited. There was an immediate connection we felt with them that we can't quite explain. I just knew that they need our help!
The pup three males and one female are a set of a collection of dogs saved from shelters or picked up off the streets by concerned citizens of Rutherford County, and area rescues and fosters that we worked closely with. The rescues would house many of the dogs and help prepare them for their new homes. I raced to the chance of helping them, and luckily for me, they did not go to the local animal shelter. I was so excited when I was given the opportunity to help hold them until they are fostered.
The four pups Loki, Mia, Scout and Coal had preventative care done worming, vaccines and waiting for spay and neuter at the end of November. One week after we had them Loki became ill and was taken to was to Ashville North Carolina for emergency care. just a few hours earlier he was playing and running around and then he was ill. But, Loki is a fighter. He spent the night and was then taken to Tri City Animal Clinic in Forest City , NC. It was determined that Loki was very ill. The other three pups Mia, Scout and Coal showed no signs of illness. By Wednesday November 13th Loki had passed on from parvo virus. We spent every minute of every day watching over the other these precious pups. They were taken to Tri City Animal Clinic for observation. At dawn, we would get a call that Scout was ill. We decided to have the vet care for them. By Saturday Mia passed November 15th 2014. Coal is still free from the virus and was able to go home. Scout is a little fighter and is currently receiving care and is still touch and go. The pups continued to bring joy to our life and countless others. They have shown us the meaning of unconditional love in it's truest sense. We would go to the end of the earth to save these little lives that the women though out as trash.
I have started this fundraiser to help cover medical costs for these sweet pups and gentle souls, who is undergoing treatment for dehydration, nausea and other complication of this virus that dogs can contract from anywhere. Always have your dog friend checked if they are ill.
Scout seems to be doing better today and is eating and drinking a few weeks after the initial illness, but it is still touch and go. He was placed on medication and antibiotics and is monitored for changes. Our hope was that we caught it early enough to avoid the possibility of additional procedures. This can be a very risky and painful process for dogs to undergo. Tri City Animal Clinic has provided exceptional care and kept the pups comfortable during their illness.
Almost three weeks ago, we had happy playful pups. To our surprise life can changed in an instant. I couldn't believe that we were right back where we were two weeks ago. I was heartbroken...
The veterinary will cost upwards of $2500 and the medical care, medications, IV's and around $1200per pup for Mia until Saturday November 15th when she passed and Scout still receiving treatment. Coal is symptom free. Expenses for their treatment have already reached $2050.00. I'm cutting every corner I can and maxing out credit cards, but I've exhausted all of my resources. I need all the help I can get to provide Scout with the treatment he requires. Scout does have a home after he recovers.
Please give anything you can and help provide Scout with a fighting chance. He has so much more love to give. Thank you for all the love and support.
